The midfielder, who himself left for Benfica only to return to Chelsea in 2014, hopes the goalkeeper does not repeat his Stamford Bridge heroics at the Emirates

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic has expressed his disappointment with Petr Cech’s move to Arsenal this summer.

Cech joined the Gunners in a deal worth around £11 million (€16m) after Thibaut Courtois emerged as Chelsea’s No.1 goalkeeper last season.

And Matic is unhappy to see his rivals strengthened by the goalkeeper’s move to north London after over a decade at Stamford Bridge.

“Petr is a great guy and a great keeper,” Matic told reporters. “It is going to be a very important signing for them.

“But I am not happy because of that. We know that he is very professional. He is one of the best keepers. And I hope this season he does not perform as he did here for 10-11 years.

“I am happy for him because he gets to stay in London, which for him and his family was very important. I wish him all the best.”
