Jennifer Lopez made history at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards when she became the first woman to receive the Icon Award.
After an electrifying performance of “First Love”, the second single from her upcoming “A.K.A.” album, JLo was called on stage to receive the Award.
Saying, “music had always been my first love”, the singer tearfully thanked her fans and all her family, including her kids and told boyfriend, Casper Smart that she loves him.
Lopez also had a message for “all you little ones sitting on the living room floor watching the TV right now, just like I used to do when I was back in the Bronx.”
“Have faith. Dream big. Think big. And know that anything is possible,” said the star. “You never know where you might end up.”
In a video montage, A-list celebrities including Britney Spears, Ricky Martin, Pitbull and Taylor Swift, sharing kind words on the legendary pop singer.”You continue to break down barriers and inspire girls,” said Rihanna.
JLo becomes the first woman among the likes of Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder and Prince, last years winner who have been honored with the lifetime achievement award for an artist’s contributions to popular music.
Earlier in the night, JLo alongsides long-time collaborator and friend Pitbull and Claudia Lette, premiered the official anthem of this year’s FIFA World Cup, “We Are One (Ole Ola).”
